International Day of Older Persons 2023

On 2nd of October 2023, ILC-I celebrated “International Day of Older Persons” by organizing a one day programme for senior citizens in Pune.

 

This event “Jau Kavitanchya Gaava” was full of fun and entertainment as seniors participated in a poetry competition and enjoyed the beats of a live orchestra of Hindi and Marathi retro songs.

Among all the poems received for the poetry competition for senior citizens announced earlier, by ILC-I, 29 original poems penned by the seniors themselves, were selected and these were recited by them, at this programme. The theme of the competition was ‘Bandh Maitriche’ (Bonds of friendship’).

 

The prizes were distributed at the end of the day by the Chief-guest Smt. Madhuritai Sahasrabudhe, Corporator and an Entrepreneur, Pune.

Dr Sagar Deshpande and Dr Madhavi Vaidya, eminent literary personalities took responsibility of judging the performances by these ‘senior poets.’ More than 225 seniors from various Senior Citizens’ Organizations in Pune attended the programme.

In the afternoon session, a team of young vocalists headed by Mr Vijay Salve performed a musical programme for seniors after the poetry competition. The theme of this programme was Hindi-Marathi retro songs which was well received by the seniors in the hall.

The band was competent enough to make seniors happy by singing the famous melodies by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Aasha Bhosale like “Baharon phool barsao”, “Ae meri Johrajabi”, “Pyaar hua ikraar hua”, “Phoolo ke rang se” and so on. Mr Salve also performed Marathi songs like “Reshamachya Reghanni”, “Zingaat” from Sairat and a few contemporary songs for which seniors joined him by waving or dancing on the stage, which is captured in the videos.

Shri Jayant Umranikar, Chairman of ILC-I addressed the audience during the prize distribution ceremony.

A total of six prizes were distributed.

 

  • First Prize: Shri Chandrashekhar Dharmadhikar (Warje Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh): A cash prize of Rs 1000/- and a certificate

  • Second Prize (Shared): Shri Arun Patki (Viman nagar Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh) and Smt. Prabhavati Kulkarni (Sobati Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh): A cash prize of Rs 750/- and a certificate

  • Third Prize (Shared): Smt. Lata Bhave (Sinhagad Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh) and Smt. Sujata Dhaat (DSK Vishwa Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh): A cash prize of Rs 500/- and a certificate

  • Consolation Prize: Smt. Smita Agnihotri (DSK Vishwa Jyeshtha Nagarik Sangh): A cash prize of Rs 300/-
